Cutting Bored

She was chopping vegetables as
I lay in the next room reading
Abruptly, she stopped and came in
with a troubled look,
told me she couldn’t see the point,
it all seemed so meaningless, we’d
eat, then go to work, come home, do it all
again the next day, and for what?
